Week 5
Discussions with:
Wellington City Council
Wellington Academy Football
The Wellington City Council was very interested in our idea of a social sporting platform. This was due to it promoting community wellbeing and the community coming together. The council gave us there fully support, and offered to potentially help maintain the app after its completion using there in house team of developers.
However, they said they couldn't fund us the start up costs as all council money is rate payer money and gets allocated to selected areas. They also stated they could make this app themselves using there in house developers and web designers, but it would take years as they are very busy.
After talking with the council we set up a meeting with a local app developer to investigate start up costs.
So instantly any business plan we create will have a big up front cost for developing the app.
The exact costs are as follows:
Planning/ scooping/strategy 40 hr $180p/h =$7200
Discussion with third parties 15hr $100p/h =$1500
Design 60hr $140p/h =$8400
Build/Development 160hr $130p/h =$20,800
Notification/third party applications 20hr $130p/h =2600
Total $40,500
The total of 40,500 was at the minimum industry rates. as app developers in Wellington are at a shortage this would mostly likely increase. possibly at much as being up to $60,000
The developer then suggested we offered shares in the company to get developers to keep there prices low. However, this would take lots of set up and for us to decide how much the company is worth.
The lecturers thought we had a lot of information to back up our designs and decisions, impressed with the figures and connections we had already made. Just told us to keep going and gave us some presentation tips.
We were requested to show more detail into our business plan, showing how long it would take things to take effect.
Preparation for Week 6 Pitch
Slides were created in a style that focused on facts and statistics. Introduced calculated figures for upfront costs. Planned only for Will Lockwood-Geck to speak because of his speaking skills and want to keep to one speaker to keep dragons constant attention on one person.
Further exploration of our App
Council Programs
Here we looked into council programs that are heavily focused toward recreational activities
Some we found were:
In2Life
Small blacks Rugby
Go4It
Whilst these programs may have been beneficial for the communities that were able to participate in them they do not provide a long run solution for the problem of getting people into sporting activities.
Our App would provide these 'communities' the advantage of being able to set up 'functions' or activities that would coincide with the wellbeing of the community through sports on the regular.

City council meeting
At the beginning of week 5 we set up a meeting with the wellington city council. this was to discuss the feasibility of our idea and potential funding. The Wellington City Council was very interested in our idea of a social sporting platform. App developer meeting
He informed us for a small app, development costs can be anywhere between $40-100k. There care the maintenance costs each year that can be between 10-15% of the initial app development costs. So instantly any business plan we create will have a big up front cost for developing the app.

Potential partnership with academy of football
We also contacted and discussed a partnership in the app with academy of football, who seek to get the local adult community involve in football casually and competitively, and host casual committee football days. This partnership would potentially be financial. However, will still don't have finances to go halves in the project, but are continuing discussions.Practice pitching to lecturers

Further Validation
A study conducted via NZSport included a survey that confirmed the following numbers of sports participants in NZ:
265,084 participants in NZ
11.1% Rugby
10.7% Netball
8.9% Football
7.1% Basketball
5.5% Touch Rugby
5.5% Volleyball
51.2% other sporting activities.
These figures show the amount of potential users our app could benefit towards in NZ only.
